Jan 16, 2019RBI announces the New External Commercial Borrowings (ECB) FrameworkAs part of the on-going efforts at rationalising multiple regulations framed under FEMA 1999 over a period of time, the regulations governing all types of borrowing and lending transactions between a person resident in India and a person resident outside India, both in foreign currency and Indian Rupee, have been consolidated and the Revised Regulation FEMA 3 R/2018 has been notified by the Government of India on December 17, 2018. Dec 31, 2018India’s International Investment Position (IIP), September 2018Today, the Reserve Bank released data relating to India’s International Investment Position at end-September 2018. Key Features of India’s IIP in September 2018 Net claims of non-residents on India declined by US$ 18.5 billion from their level a quarter ago (Table 1). The decline in net claims was due to a sharper fall in foreign owned assets in India as compared with that in the Indian residents’ overseas financial assets. Dec 20, 2018RBI announces the limit for the stock of External Commercial BorrowingsIt has been decided, in consultation with the Government of India to have a rule-based dynamic limit for outstanding stock of External Commercial Borrowings (ECB) at 6.5 per cent of GDP at current market prices. Based on the GDP figures as on March 31, 2018, the soft limit works out to USD 160 billion for the current financial year. The outstanding stock of ECB as on September 30, 2018 stood at USD 126.29 billion. Jose J.
