Except for the change in the signature, the design of these notes to be issued now is similar in all respects to the banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi Series - 2005, with additional / new security features issued on April 27, 2006. ಆಗ 28, 2008RBI Clarification on phasing out of BanknotesOn enquiries from the press and members of public, the Reserve Bank of India has clarified as follows:As a part of its currency management programme, the Reserve Bank phases out banknotes of old design once banknotes in new design with additional/enhanced security features are introduced. ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 12, 2008Respect Your Banknotes : RBI appeals to PublicThe Reserve Bank of India today appealed to members of public not to use banknotes for making garlands, decorating pandals and places of worship or for showering on personalities in social events, etc. Such actions deface the banknotes and shorten their life, the Reserve Bank stated and added that banknotes should be respected as they are a symbol of the Sovereign and public should not misuse them so that the life of banknotes is enhanced. The Bank wishes to reiterate that such practices work against the Clean Note Policy of the Bank. All members of public, institutions and others are, therefore, advised not to write/inscribe anything whatsoever on the banknotes. The Reserve Bank clarifies that there is no shortage of coins and members of public, shops and commercial establishments can obtain their coin requirements from its Regional Offices or from designated branches of commercial banks.
